Mo.S.I.S. (Modular Software Engineering for Interoperative Systems)
Projektbeschreibung
An important goal of the CCIOS cooperation (Competence Centre for Interoperative Systems, Fraunhofer institute IIS-A) is to elaborate a universal hardware-independent developing strategy for adaptive/reconfigurable interoperative systems and especially for mobile devices. In order to provide a faster and more efficient engineering process, two major fields of interest arise: Optimised software engineering through the use and improvement of modern and mostly platform independent engineering methods and tools Conception and realisation of new applications and service-provider scenarios, in particular within the pilot project HORN (Home and Office Replenishment Nuremberg), which is an initiative of the Fraunhofer Institute ATL, Nuremberg We therefore concentrate our research work on a development strategy that covers all phases from the design phase up to the implementation, even for lightweight devices. Our new technique will allow rapid software prototyping to obtain an open reconfigurable mobile device. In the same way, the infrastructure installed for mobile services will be dynamically reusable for new services. Our concept aims on platform independence by using dedicated design patterns. A global service or application has to be separated into collaborating and exchangeable software modules to enable modular reconfiguration over wireless networks. Platform interoperability is reached via a profile based generic reconfiguration mechanism, permitting the (re-)use of existing local infrastructures to reconfigure various mobile terminals. Software interoperability can be reached by the use of light-weight data oriented interfaces rather than through a middleware approach.
