Evaluation of Novel Real-time Communication Mechanism for Multi-rate Applications
In recent times the modern automotive systems are growing in the complexity with increase in the number of functions and inclusion of the complex data types. The existing LET based communication mechanisms suffer from different problems such as large memory requirements, synchronization overheads etc. In this work we try to reduce the memory requirements and the synchronization overhead caused by lock based mechanisms by introducing a novel communication mechanism called Ranked Buffering Protocol . We developed theoretical and mathematical basis for the Ranked Buffering Protocol and designed algorithms for the software implementation. In this work we eliminated the need for copying, and also the need for lock based synchronization mechanisms by introducing lookup sequences for exclusive buffer access by the tasks. We have reduced the total buffer allocations and reduced the memory requirements by employing Doubling Method.
