Development of an USB to automotive ethernet media converter
Ethernet and the protocols based on it, such as IPv4/v6, TCP or UDP, have long since found their way into the automotive world.
Not least due to the switch to a domain- or zone-based vehicle architecture.
Traditional bus systems such as LIN, Flexray or CAN have been completely or largely replaced, as they are often unable to cope with the increased demands on communication and QoS properties.
As a result of this change, new devices for establishing communication are required both for the development and for the verification of electronic control units in vehicles, but these are often very expensive to purchase.
There is therefore a great need for cost-effective devices that are expandable and easy to use.
As part of this project, a prototype USB-to-automotive-Ethernet media converter was developed, initially using various development boards and finally designing a customized circuit board for use in development and test environments in motor vehicles.
